a pear that tastes like banana

I left a pear in a fruit basket to let it ripe. On top of that I left a banana. The banana was ripen and fragrant.

A couple of days later, the pear tasted like banana!

I guess that the smell of banana had been absorbed in the waxy skin of pear. Amazing! (This happens only with organic fruit perhaps.)
